What the program can cover
As published by the program in 2026, approved applicants can have up to 90% of approved A/C leak repair costs covered, to a maximum of $1,500 per vehicle. The Cool Air Salute tier raises coverage to 95% for eligible veterans, active-duty service members and military dependents. Program terms can change, so confirm current details at coolairrebate.org.
Who may qualify
- California residents who meet the program’s household income limit
- Vehicles from model years 1993 to 2019 that use R-134a refrigerant, or older vehicles converted to R-134a
- A/C systems that are not cooling because of a refrigerant leak
- Applicants who have been approved by the program before repairs begin
Not every customer or every vehicle qualifies. Newer vehicles that use R-1234yf refrigerant are not part of the program.
How it works
- Apply with the Cool Air Rebate Program online. The program reviews your income and vehicle information.
- If you are approved, the program sends you a confirmation.
- Schedule a visit with us and bring your approval.
- We inspect the A/C system for leaks and report what we find to the program.
- Once the repair is authorized, we complete the work. You pay your share, and the program pays the rest of the approved amount.
