Timing Belt Replacement in Huntington Beach

A timing belt keeps the engine's valves and pistons moving in step, and it wears out on a schedule. HB Auto & AC replaces timing belts at the manufacturer's interval for vehicles that use them, and inspects the water pump, tensioner and seals while the engine is apart.

Why the interval matters

A timing belt usually gives no warning before it breaks. On many engines, called interference engines, a broken belt lets the pistons strike the valves. Replacing the belt on schedule costs far less than repairing that damage.

Belt or chain?

Not every engine has a timing belt. Many use a timing chain, which normally lasts much longer. We will look up your engine and tell you which it has and whether anything is due.

What is replaced with the belt

The belt, tensioner and idler pulleys are replaced together. Where the water pump is driven by the timing belt, it makes sense to replace it at the same time, since the labor overlaps. We also check the cam and crank seals for leaks.

Questions we hear often

When should a timing belt be replaced?

Follow your manufacturer's interval, which commonly falls between 60,000 and 105,000 miles, or a set number of years.

Is it really necessary at the recommended interval?

Yes. On an interference engine a broken belt can cause major engine damage.
